HOUNDAWG MUSIC (USA) & MOJO BLUE RECORDS (UK)
Houndawg Music is an Independent Record Label situated in Dallas, Texas.
It collaborates with Mojo Blue Records in the U.K. on selective recording projects, mostly in the Blues genre.
They recently completed their first Blues project, Gruff Side of the Blues for Slapback Jack and Bad Voodoo.
All the basic instrumental tracks were laid down in Eastbourne, UK by Bad Voodoo, sent to the Dallas studios, where the lyrics were written and Slapback Jack applied the vocal tracks over the instrumentals. These were returned to the UK where the "fill-in" instrumentals were applied.
During a period of one year, which it took to complete the album, marketing tests were conducted on selective "download" sites around the world to monitor which songs were receiving better than average attention. E-mails and critics from dedicated Blues enthusiasts in the USA, and as far away as Europe, Russia and Australia were also a great inspiration to the way adjustments were finally made.
Song formats would then be fine-tuned to the selected choice, and in some cases were scraped, or totally redone...and that really is how the album was eventually assembled.
After the first stage of completion, all the original instrumental and vocal tracks were taken to the Dallas studio for final engineering, mastering and "clean-up".
What should not be omitted, are the creative "hurdles" and frustrations that had to be overcome by Slapback Jack and Bad Voodoo, who were in effect, creating their original music arrangements and lyrics over two continents apart...not in the same studio…with no eye contact...and no "feeding" on any of the musicians creative input, that usually plays such an important role in the making of a successful album.
The real secret to this formula, is truly based on a quotation that was made by the "Guitar God" Jimi Hendrix; "The Blues is easy to play, but hard to feel".
Slapback Jack and Bad Voodoo truly "feel" the Blues, and it comes through in every single track of their new album...Buy it...Listen to it...and you'll agree that this was a Blues journey worth the takin'...enjoy the ride!!
